The Texas abortion law S.B. 8, also known as the “Texas Heartbeat Act”, was placed to take affect September 1, 2021. The act criminalizes abortion in Texas after six weeks of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is in danger. However, many women fail to realize pregnancy during that given time. An issue that contributes to the anger this act brought about to the American people.
Abortions are a result of rape or incest in many cases. The governor of Texas claims there will be a push to “eliminate all rapists” when questioned about the fairness of the act regarding rape victims. More often than not, it takes time for the victim to overcome physical and emotional trauma making it harder for a pregnancy to be detected. According to the CDC, rape-related pregnancies are experienced by almost 3 million women. This raises the question of human rights towards women as men are trying to give input on what they are allowed to do with their bodies. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez disagrees with the Texas Heartbeat Act as she claims that, “None of this is about supporting life. What this is about is controlling women’s bodies and controlling people who are not cisgender men“.

An outburst of anger on news platforms and social media since the Texas’ ban began.
To illustrate how insane a 6-week abortion ban is: I did IVF and still did not know I was pregnant until 4.5 weeks. That’s LITERALLY as early as you can possibly know and that’s when you are PAYING someone to put an embryo in your body on a specific day and keep track of it.

Individuals are now allowed to sue providers and those who helped with an abortion process after the stated six weeks. An award of $10,000 is issued to be granted for a successful lawsuit. Multiple anti-abortion activists are now sending tips in order to stop any abortions from happening. This leaves Americans to question the possibility of the situation being reversed on the opposite sex. Would making mandatory reversible vasectomy’s be a possible equivalence to this abortion ban?
