Dealing with Stress During Finals Season

For many college students, finals season or exam season is rapidly approaching. It can be a time of increased stress which can cause physical and mental decline. Here are some tips for dealing with exam season stress to get through this time as smoothly as possible.

Write everything you have to do down. This may seem like a simple and skippable task, but it helps you take all the anxiety about due dates and write it down. Places such as Notion offer great resources for planning. If you like tangible lists, going to your local store or ordering a planner online would be helpful.

Practice breathing exercises. There are hundreds of different exercises online to choose from. Some personal favorites are box breathing and blowing through a “straw.” You can do these exercises discreetly anywhere even during exams.

Check in with yourself and understand that a little stress is normal. You are going through a stressful time, but it will be temporary. Ask yourself: am I catastrophizing? Will this stress last forever?
