With Spotify Wrapped taking over everyone’s social media feeds, let’s take a moment to look back and see what songs were trending years ago.
Something to note is that with so many streaming services, access to music has continued to grow over the years. Different platforms may report different data, so I will only be using data from Billboard.
Before we look too far back, let’s look at the top songs of 2022:
- “Heatwaves” by Glass Animals
- “As It Was” by Harry Styles
- “STAY” by Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber
- “Easy On Me” by Adele
- “Shivers” by Ed Sheeran
What about five years ago, in 2017:
- “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran
- “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Featuring Justin Bieber
- “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars
- “Humble.” by Kendrick Lamar
- “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
Now, let’s go back ten years to 2012:
- “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye Featuring Kimbra
- “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen
- “We Are Young” by fun. Featuring Janelle Monae
- “Payphone” by Maroon 5 Featuring Wiz Khalifa
- “Lights” by Ellie Goulding
“We Are Young” by fun. Featuring Janelle Monae used to be one of my favorite songs that I have since forgotten about. I hope this brief dive into the past reminded you of some of your old favorites too.
