Whether you’re anxiously awaiting the soon-coming warmer months, struggling to keep up with long work hours, or just trying to make each day a bit brighter, small choices can lead to great rewards. Finding a routine that works for you is the best way to approach building positive habits in your routine, but if you’re struggling to find small ways to start, starting with a good breakfast is a wonderful way to start!
Start with a Good Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it’s also incredibly overlooked. Busy mornings and snooze buttons can make it challenging to plan your breakfast first thing in the morning, but planning ahead is a great way to overcome this. To make sure you’re prioritizing starting your day on the right foot, John Hopkins Medicine recommends:
- Encouraging your family to get involved with meal planning and working together to create a breakfast meal plan for the week
- Adding breakfast items to your shopping list and keeping your kitchen well-stocked with good foods.
- Setting the table for breakfast the night before by putting out non-perishables (cereal boxes, oatmeal containers, whole-grain bread, peanut butter, fruit, etc.) so you can easily see it the next morning.
- Storing your milk, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, 100% fruit juice, and other perishable breakfast foods at the front of the fridge, so they’re easy to grab in a hurry.
- Packing and labeling each person’s to-go breakfast bag the night before and storing them in the fridge.
- Taking extra time for breakfast on the weekends and eating as a family
