How to apply for Law School

The application process for law school is a tough and competitive undertaking that necessitates careful planning and attention to detail. Prospective law students must traverse a rigorous set of criteria, including the submission of transcripts, test results, personal statements, and letters of recommendation. With a limited number of spaces available at top law schools, the process might be daunting, but with the appropriate strategy, candidates can boost their chances of admission. To stand out from the crowd of applicants, it is critical to begin early, extensively investigate colleges, and present oneself in the best light possible. This process demands focus, commitment, and perseverance, but for those who are enthusiastic about the law and want to pursue a career in this sector, it may be a wonderful and life-changing experience. In this article, we will go over the basic steps to applying for law school.

  1. Create your LSAC Account

This first step of the process is very essential to the application status because it will aid you in keeping track of all of the different steps to take for each of the schools you are applying for.

2. Register for the LSAT and Study away!

The LSAT is an important element of applying to law school because all law schools look at your score and use it to determine whether or not you are a good fit for their program. It is recommended that all applicants take the LSAT by November/December in order to be admitted to law school for the following fall semester. Schedule your exam date with enough time to ensure that you submit your application to all of your institutions on time, if not early.

3. Create a List of Schools

Creating a list of schools you want to apply for will be beneficial when actually applying because all of your information is in one place. Creating a document with each school, the application start date, the lsat score, and minimum GPA will aid you when it’s time to apply.

4. Register for the Credential Assembly Service

If required by your preferred schools, register for the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) six to eight weeks before your first law school application date. CAS will help to streamline the application process by requiring you to submit your transcripts and letters of recommendation to LSAC only once. We will assemble all of your information into a law school report for the law schools you select.

5. Request your Transcripts

Request your transcripts from your undergraduate institution and allow two weeks for processing. When processed, you will be able to view your Academic Summary in your newly created LSAC account. This summary will be available to all law schools.

6. Request your Letters of Reccomendation

The school’s letter of recommendation criteria can differ. You can submit forms to your recommenders by downloading them from your LSAC account. Allow two weeks to process your recommendation after received it from the recommender you’ve asked.

7. Tailor Your Resume

Some law schools require you to submit your resume along with your application. Take a look at your resume and make sure to add all your applicable content.

8. Write your Personal Statement

Some law schools also require a personal statement when applying. Check each school to make sure you are aware of their criteria for the statement before writing it. Write your statement with heart and persona, but keep it professional. This is a way for law schools to look into who you are on a deeper level.

9. Apply to your Schools of Choice

Through your LSAC account, you can apply to all the schools as you please. Good Luck!

The History of the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique has been a popular study technique since the 1980s. Study-With-Me-style videos utilize the technique on Youtube, and it’s recommended by Instagram and TikTok study-based influencers worldwide. If you’ve utilized the technique via a video, you likely associate it with 25-minute rounds of work broken up by 5-minute breaks. There’s often low-fi in the background and an incredibly satisfying desk layout on screen, the highlighted notes written with neat, clean handwriting.

Recently, this technique got me through my finals season, and I started to wonder how it came to be. I’d heard that ‘Pomodoro’ is the Italian word for tomato, but how did that fit into my 25/5 study sessions? Who invented the technique, and did it actually work? Luckily, with finals over, I now have time to look into this.

The Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo, a professional mentor for developers, managers, and software teams when he was a university student in the 1980s. Cirillo noticed the overwhelmed he felt when deadlines were emerging and how difficult it was for him to focus long enough to complete assignments. This anxiety led him to push himself to complete just 10 minutes of studying rather than trying to sit down for a few hours at a time. With this new determination, Cirillo got out a tomato-shaped (I knew tomatoes would come in at some point) kitchen timer and thus began the Pomodoro technique.

Cirillo eventually wrote a book about this method (available HERE), but our friends at Todoist.com summarized the beautiful simplicity of this method with the following list:

  1. Get a to-do list and a timer.
  2. Set your timer for 25 minutes, and focus on a single task until the timer rings.
  3. When your session ends, mark off one pomodoro and record what you completed.
  4. Then enjoy a five-minute break.
  5. After four pomodoros, take a longer, more restorative 15-30 minute break”

In addition to these 5 simple steps, there are 3 rules.

  1. If a task requires >4 pomodoro cycles, it needs to be divided into smaller steps.
  2. Any small tasks that will take less than one 25-minute sprint should be combined with other tasks that will take less than one 25-minute sprint.
  3. “Once the timer is set, it must ring.” This is important to remember because it forces you to take responsibility for the tasks that need to be completed in those 25 minutes. There isn’t time to scroll on Instagram or send a text back, you have to focus with the understanding that there will be a break to do all of those things after the 25 minutes are up.

As for the question “Does it work?”, I have to say YES! This finals season, the Pomodoro Technique (and Quizlet premium) helped me feel confident about my finals. They kept me from feeling extremely overwhelmed by long hours of studying with no breaks and kept me on task long enough for effective study sessions. This will remain my go-to study routine through my undergraduate degree and on through law school.

The Lipstick Effect: What Cosmetic Trends Reveal About The Economy.

There are many indicators economists use to predict a recession. They may look at rising unemployment rates, a decrease in the economy’s gross domestic production (GDP), or the rate of imports/ exports. However, one indicator is consumer purchases. In recent years, a phenomenon called the ‘Lipstick Effect/ Lipstick Index’ has been used to describe the way everyday people buy and shop during a recession.

Often times, a recession can prompt people to make ‘feel good’ purchases that don’t break the bank, like a small tube of lipstick. The Lipstick Effect is also why fast-food restaurants and movie theaters still make profit during a recession. The term was coined in 1998 by Professor Juliet Schor in her book The Overspent American.

This phenomenon has been proved with research dating back to the Great Depression in the 1930s when cosmetic sales rose drastically. Even after 9/11 in 2001, lipstick sales rose 11% and then again in the 2008 recession.

Korean President Sings “American Pie”

On a memorable evening at the White House, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol pleasantly surprised President Joe Biden and other esteemed dinner guests with his musical talent. Yoon’s soulful and heartfelt rendition of Don McLean’s classic hit “American Pie” added a sweet and entertaining note to an already jam-packed day for the two leaders.

Earlier in the day, Yoon and Biden had announced the Washington Declaration on nuclear deterrence, signaling a strong commitment to maintaining global peace and security. In addition, the two leaders also discussed ways to enhance their countries’ economic ties, which will undoubtedly benefit both nations in the long run.

Despite the progress made on the diplomatic front, Yoon’s domestic policies have come under fire from critics. Some have accused him of pushing anti-feminist legislation, which has drawn widespread condemnation from women’s rights groups. Furthermore, Yoon’s efforts to strengthen the relationship between South Korea and Japan have also been met with resistance, as tensions between the two countries continue to simmer.

Tornado causes damage in Florida

For the past few weeks, Florida has been hit with horrible rain storms, flooding, and now a tornado. The rain storms caused a lot of flooding in South Florida, forcing the airport to cancel flights, as well as many people losing their homes, cars, and personal items. People were also unable to go to work because it was too dangerous to drive in the area because of the 14-20 inches of rain. CNN weather flooding

On Saturday, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was hit with a tornado that brought intense rain storms and strong winds. This tornado caused a lot of damage, but luckily there were no injuries or fatalities as of right now. The damages that were caused by this tornado were flipped cars, damaged homes, trees falling on top of cars and homes, and the streets having debris. NBC News Weather

According to the Weather Service, it has been said that the tornado had a wind speed of 130MPH. Due to this intensity, the police department of Palm Beach Gardens has recommended the residents not travel on certain highways that have a lot of debris and to try to stay indoors. Nord Stream 2 pipeline

A new gas export pipeline called Nord Stream 2 was constructed to carry Russian gas across the Baltic Sea to Europe. It is run by Russia’s state-owned gas export monopoly Gazprom. It is anticipated to transport up to 55 cm of gas, doubling the Nord Stream system’s annual export capacity to 110 cm. Although the pipeline’s construction was finished in September 2021, and gas flows were scheduled to begin in 2022, because Germany suspended certification and Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the pipeline’s future could be better. If it is put into operation, Nord Stream 2 will supply over 26 million homes in Western Europe.Nord Stream 2 Pipeline Project

What caused for the pipeline to leak?

Two leaks were found on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which ceased supplying gas to Europe last month, and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline reported an abrupt reduction in pressure. Following the leak, Danish authorities asked ships to avoid Bornholm by five nautical miles. In addition, Germany abandoned its plan to use Bornholm as a gas supply days before Russia sent troops into Ukraine in February. Although the gas in the pipelines is still under pressure, Europe is not receiving the fuel. These breaches are incredibly uncommon, according to analysts and specialists, and Nord Stream AG has labeled leaks on three strings of the offshore gas pipelines as “unprecedented.” A lack of upkeep, technical issues, and even human error are some potential causes of sabotage. The Kremlin stated that it has not ruled out sabotage as the cause of the damage and added that it was a problem affecting the “entire continent’s” energy security. While the leader of Denmark stated that it could not be ruled out, the prime minister of Poland claimed that the leaks resulted from sabotage. Seismographs on Bornholm recorded spikes at 00:03 and 17:00 GMT on Monday, when the pressure losses took place, according to the German Geology Research Centre GFZ.Nord Stream pipeline leaks: What happened, what’s the impact?

Who is responsible for the pipeline leak?

he Swedish security police investigation into the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines has been strengthened after a crime scene investigation, with both countries excluding Russia from the probes. Russia’s foreign ministry said it was “unthinkable” that an inquiry into pipeline ruptures would proceed without Moscow’s participation. Western governments and officials have avoided pointing a finger directly, while Russia has blamed the West. Although the Kremlin said allegations of Russian responsibility were “stupid,” Russian officials have said Washington had a motive as it wants to sell more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe. President Vladimir Putin said the US and its allies blew up Nord Stream, but the White House has dismissed the accusation, and President Joe Biden said the damage to Nord Stream was a deliberate sabotage.Nord Stream gas ‘sabotage’: who’s being blamed and why?

Issue Ownership Explained

Issue ownership is important to understand when discussing party competition and voting. If a party is seen as ‘owning’ an issue, they are seen as the best at handling and delegating that issue. Therefore, parties can win elections by promoting issues voters believe they handle better. Issues that are ‘owned’ can range from civil rights to tax simplification. Which party gets deemed as a better fit for certain issues has a lot to do with how they have handled the issue in the past, party stereotypes, and factors outside of the party’s control like the general political climate.

A study published in 2017 that remains relevant today shows which issues ‘belong’ to which party. Republicans are seen at handling issues like the national security, the military, terrorism, immigration, and gun policy. Democrats are seen at handling healthcare, racial justice, unemployment, education and decreasing the power of large corporations better than Republicans. Issues voters are on the fence about are the economy, foreign trade, and tax policy.

Party composition has a lot to do with issues parties campaign on. Democrats are seen better at handling civil rights and social justice as a large party of the party is Asian American, Hispanic, and African America. Democrats are also seen at handling the environment better as more Democrats hold university degrees. They are also seen at handling abortion better as they have more female voters.

The Life and Controversy of Niccolò Paganini

Niccolò Paganini was perhaps the most skilled violinist of the 19th century. His eccentric and flamboyant playing style and his ability to play difficult pieces with absolute precision revolutionized classical music. This work inspired musicians such as composers Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms.

His music was so advanced many believed his talent came from demonic possession. It was expressed that his music even made men see the devil guiding his hands as he played. This relationship between music and superstition is common in blues and rock music, but Paganini was thought to pioneer this stereotype. These rumors were furthered by his claim that his playing was inspired by a guardian angel.

His lifestyle supported this superstition. He was fond of drinking and gambling. He even had to pawn his violin to pay off a debt. His flexible joints made playing multiple notes at once and making quick note changes easy. There is an infamous story of a concert he played on just one violin string.

His influence as the ‘Devil’s Violinist’ was carried on after his death. His body was rejected to be buried in Genoa, Itaty by the Catholic chruch because of his reputation.
