Public Speaking

Public speaking is an oral presentation or speech given in front of a live audience. It is usually a formal or choreographed affair; however, impromptu speeches are typical and can be career-defining. For example, you might think you’re going to a customer meeting only to be called on to explain a procedural or technical topic being discussed. Alternatively, you could sit in a management meeting to observe when you are asked to elaborate on an area of the supporting research and analysis or defend your recommendations. What is Public Speaking?

Benefits of public speaking

Public speaking can help with career advancement, credibility, confidence, and critical thinking skills. It can also help one stand out at work, promote ideas, and present oneself professionally. A North Carolina Cooperative Extension study found that public speaking increased confidence, and meeting a goal was an important factor in increasing student confidence. In addition, public speaking is a great way to improve communication skills and personal development. It can help you learn to take up an opposing view, present your ideas organized and coherently, and defend your opinions to others. It is also a powerful way to unite people under a common cause and motivate them to take action, as well as to make friends, build business contacts, and network with other speakers. The essential details of public speaking include learning performance skills, developing vocabulary and fluency, and learning to argue. Listening may be a lost art, but a public speaking course teaches you to become a better listener. What are the Benefits of Public Speaking?

Climate change

Long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns are referred to as climate change. These changes could be natural, such as oscillations in the solar cycle. However, since the 1800s, human activities have been the primary cause of climate change, mainly due to fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. The combustion of fossil fuels produces greenhouse gas emissions, which behave like a blanket wrapped over the Planet, trapping heat from the sun and raising temperatures. Carbon dioxide and methane are two greenhouse gas emissions affecting climate change. For example, they are caused by using gasoline to drive a car or coal to heat a building. Clearing land and forests can also result in the release of carbon dioxide. Garbage landfills are a significant source of methane emissions. What is Climate Change?

How does climate change affect the people

Climate change has caused severe side effects, including extreme heatwaves, melting glaciers, widescale droughts, destructive wildfires, and increasing carbon dioxide levels. These changes have caused various health complications, especially among older populations, ethnic minorities, and the poor. Rising temperatures are associated with a more than 50% increase in heat-related death among people over 65, as well as increased heart and lung conditions, mental illness, immune system reactions such as allergies, and many other disorders. A Domino Effect on the heart is also a significant issue, with cardiovascular diseases ranking as the leading cause of death worldwide. Additionally, climate change significantly impacts heart health, with spikes in our core body temperature causing us to breathe faster and harder, which can trigger heart attacks and heat strokes. Finally, the negative impact of climate change on air quality is also associated with heart damage. In 2014, the U.S. committed to helping protect the environment today is critical in creating a healthier society. Climate change significantly impacts mental health, particularly vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, the economically disadvantaged, and people with pre-existing mental illnesses. Skin cancer due to increased UV radiation and lung cancer, as well as higher temperatures, droughts, floods, and other weather phenomena, can all increase the risk of mental health issues.
Additionally, changes in food supply and reduced consumption of healthy foods can lead to higher mortality rates and disruptions in the healthcare system. Climate change has exacerbated inequities, limiting access to optimal care and techniques in low- and middle-income countries. Pollution has increased in frequency and severity in some geographic regions due to human emissions and increased urbanization. By combining this, international governments, healthcare organizations, and businesses are setting targets to reach net-zero emissions and protect at least 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030.Climate Change and Human Health: Racing to Curb the Ripple Effect

What we can do to reduce climate change

Everyone can help limit climate change by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by taking steps such as unplugging, saving energy at home, walking, biking, or taking public transport, eating plant-based foods, eating more vegetables, and flying less. These actions can reduce emissions by up to 2 tons of CO2e per year compared to a lifestyle using a car. To preserve a livable climate, the average annual emissions per person will need to drop to 2 to 2.5 tons by 2030. Take one less long-haul flight, cut food waste, recycle, reduce, reuse, repair & recycle, use renewable energy, and switch to an electric vehicle can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 1.5 tons of CO2e per year. Go electric and invest in environmentally sustainable businesses to reduce your carbon footprint. Speak up and get others to join in taking action. Climate action is a task for all of us, and we can do it together. Explore ideas here.Start with these ten actions!

Astral Projection

Astral projection is a deliberate and intentional out-of-body experience (OBE) in which awareness functions independently of the physical body and travels throughout the astral plane.

This practice can be traced back to ancient times, where people would take part in it in order to meditate, hypnotize, or hallucinate. There are many cultures and religions that participate in this practice, such as Egyptian, Hindu, Amazon, Inuit, and Japanese.

Scientists have not been able to prove the theory of astral projection exists. However, there are many individuals who claim that it is real. Additionally, people claim that participating in astral projection is beneficial for certain types of mental disorders, such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

What would happened if a nuclear weapon is detonated

A nuclear weapon is an explosive device that uses a nuclear reaction. This explosion is far more potent than traditional explosives. When a nuclear weapon explodes, four types of energy are released: a blast wave, blinding light, heat, and radiation. Nuclear weapons can be deployed as bombs or missiles. An enormous fireball is formed when a nuclear weapon explodes. Everything inside this fireball vaporizes and ascends. This results in the formation of a mushroom-shaped cloud. The material in the cloud cools to the size of dust and falls back to Earth as fallout. The wind can carry fallout and end up miles away from the explosion site. Fallout is radioactive and can contaminate anything it comes into contact with.Nuclear Weapon

The short term effects and the long term effects

The fireball from a nuclear explosion reaches its most significant magnitude in around 10 seconds. Tremendous energy is released during a nuclear detonation through blasts, heat, and radiation. A massive shockwave travels hundreds of kilometers per hour. The explosion kills those nearby and causes lung injuries, ear damage, and internal bleeding further away. In addition, individuals are injured due to collapsing buildings and flying objects. Thermal radiation is so powerful that it vaporizes practically anything near ground zero. The intense heat causes severe burns and sparks fires across a vast area, resulting in a massive firestorm. Those in underground bunkers risk dying due to a lack of oxygen and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Nuclear weapons have long-term health consequences, including cancer and genetic damage, and their use in atmospheric testing has caused grave environmental damage. Scientists project that 2.4 million people worldwide will eventually die from cancers due to these tests, and the use of less than one percent of the nuclear weapons in the world could disrupt global climate and threaten as many as two billion people with starvation in a nuclear famine. In addition, a nuclear war could cause a nuclear winter, which would destroy the fragile ecosystem, and could also cause a refugee crisis that is orders of magnitude larger than any we have ever experienced. What happens if nuclear weapons are used?

The effects of nuclear weapons on the economy

Since World War II, the Department of Defense has been the vehicle for delivering pork-barrel funds to various regions. It has created an inertia challenging to curtail nuking weapons programs after their useful life has expired. Nuclear weapons projects provide infrastructure and facilities, have a lower multiplier, and provide less economic activity for the United States in general. For example, the Department of Energy advertised a sub-critical nuclear test to cost from $15 to $20 million a shot. Still, this month’s independent study shows that these tests are more reasonably priced at $45 to $95 million apiece. At $4.5 billion a year, the Science-Based Stockpile Stewardship program is larded with vast amounts of money spent on maintaining employment levels at the national laboratories. Defense economists have recognized that true national strength is based on the flexibility and diversity of the economy. Excessive spending should be avoided in the future to ensure the economic stability of the US.THE ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Kerrygold Class Action Lawsuit + Recall

Kerrygold, a registered trademark of Ornua Co-operative Limited, has been facing recent allegations which have led to a class-action lawsuit.

Kerrygold is most popularly known for their dairy products, which include a myriad of different types of butters and cheese. Additionally, they are well-known for their “pure and natural” ingredients that come from grass-fed Irish cows. The company claims that their products are “superior” to other dairy products due to their cows, as well as the expertise of their staff.

Kerrygold products have recently been recalled, and taken off of shelves in grocery stores that are located in New York and California. The recall is due to the discovery of the presence of PFAs (polyfluoralkyl substances) in the foil that wraps around the product. PFAs are scientifically proven to be artificial and synthetic. Additionally, they have the potential to be harmful and dangerous to humans, even in a small amount. The United States has strict regulations regarding PFAs, as they present themselves as a threat to humans and the environment.

As of March 1, 2023, Kerrygold products are permitted to return to grocery store shelves, as Kerrygold claims that their new product packaging adheres to the PFA regulations of the United States.

The Rise of Chat GPT

Within the last four to five years, computer software developers have been developing a program that has and will continue to assist with customer service limitations and other communication systems in our post-industrialized world. Chat GPT, initially established by Open AI in 2018, was established to analyze massive amounts of data, assist specific industries in the customer service domain. It was established to help AI source information efficiently and effectively from the seemingly infinite range of resources on the internet.

Transitioning, Chat GPT has become tremendously popular to the extent that Chat GPT has been utilized in the academic world. Specifically, Arizona State University has already begun banning Chat GPT as it poses significant plagiarism dilemmas that are difficult to detect. Chat GPT has become so popular nationwide that Open AI is rapidly developing anti-development software that will hopefully pulverize plagiarism in discussion boards and essays alike.

On the other hand, with tremendous AI intellectual power comes devastating consequences. For instance, journalists and magazine writers can lose their careers due to the ability and precision that Chat GPT writes with. Furthermore, millions of people could lose their customer service-related jobs as an AI could more accurately conduct its responsibilities than a human. Last and certainly not least, part of this post was sourced from Chat GPT’s open chat feature, which truly depicts how destructive and powerful this software is.

What is Globalization

Globalization is a term used to describe how trade and technology have made the world a more connected and interdependent place. It began with Columbus’s voyage to the New World in 1492, but people had been exchanging ideas, products, and customs before then. In the Age of Exploration, European explorers sought new sea routes to the Americas, and technology played an important role in maritime trade routes. The Age of Revolution saw the spread of ideas about liberty, equality, and fraternity, and advances in computer and communications technology launched a new global era. The benefits and disadvantages of globalization are debated, with the downside seen in the increased risk for the transmission of diseases. Globalization has also led to great good, such as the ability to come to the aid of poorer nations in crisis, and the sense that there is a global village Globalization .

What are the effects

Globalization has both winners and losers, with people living in communities dependent on jobs outsourced elsewhere often suffering the most. In the developed world, workers must compete with lower-cost markets for jobs, while in the developing world, economies are undergoing rapid change. In 2013, a textile factory building collapsed, killing more than 1,100 workers, and critics blame globalization for encouraging an environment that exploits workers in countries that do not offer sufficient protections. Studies suggest that globalization may also contribute to income disparity and inequality between the more educated and less educated members of a society, with unskilled workers being affected by declining wages Effects of Economic Globalization.

How to improve globalization

The United States has a unique opportunity to take advantage of the changing nature of globalization by participating in the global economy and joining e-commerce marketplaces. Firms that export have higher productivity growth, and their workers experience higher wages. Additionally, the US runs a large surplus in digital services trade with the European Union, and a joint McKinsey Global Institute/1776 survey of startups found that 86% engaged in some form of foreign business activity from inception. These tech-savvy, globally minded entrepreneurs think nothing of seeking out venture capital from Europe, hiring talent from South Asia, and selling into markets around the world right out of the gate We Can’t Undo Globalization, but We Can Improve It.

The Two Main Phases the Environmental Protection Agency Use

The train derailment disaster in Ohio, is a big trend within the environmental community. Environmental disasters can have extreme consequences that can regard people’s health. The Environmental Protection Agency stepped into drastic events such as these. They test the exposure within the soil, air, and water for each disaster to determine the level of classification, and what other measurements to take place. The EPA works closely with toxicologists and other specialists to examine further details that may be needed. For the EPA to continue to help Ohio there will be two listed phases that will be involved.

The Environmental Protection Agency is designed to “protect people and the environment from significant health risks, sponsors and conducts research, and develops and enforces environmental regulations.”

For disasters such as these, the EPA has two listed ways of how they can react which are Response and Recover.

The EPA has different ways of doing these two phases but they are not the same. During the process of planning the two phases can intertwine with one another.

The National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan and the National Response Framework indicate how the EPA will respond. The common name for this plan is National Contingency Plan or NCP which is throughout at a federal level. NCP is a step-by-step plan for the National Response Team (NRT) to coordinate responses within other hierarchies of responders and planners.

Using the coordinated blueprint is what will determine the timeframe for disaster relief.

After examination, time, and processing the disaster impact can lead to the next phase. Recovery is how the NCP will be used to help with the long-term restoration of places and communities affected by the disaster. The objectives of the EPA differ in how much needs to be restored. Depending on the disaster the EPA has in ready over 20 existing programs to be involved in this phase such as Energy Star and Tribal Affairs.

We cannot prevent disasters from happening but some ways can help prevent these impacts from becoming a harmful threat. The NCP is the plan to guide the United States to help the existing communities in crisis.

The Importance Of Breakfast

Whether you’re anxiously awaiting the soon-coming warmer months, struggling to keep up with long work hours, or just trying to make each day a bit brighter, small choices can lead to great rewards. Finding a routine that works for you is the best way to approach building positive habits in your routine, but if you’re struggling to find small ways to start, starting with a good breakfast is a wonderful way to start!

Start with a Good Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it’s also incredibly overlooked. Busy mornings and snooze buttons can make it challenging to plan your breakfast first thing in the morning, but planning ahead is a great way to overcome this. To make sure you’re prioritizing starting your day on the right foot, John Hopkins Medicine recommends:

  • Encouraging your family to get involved with meal planning and working together to create a breakfast meal plan for the week
  •  Adding breakfast items to your shopping list and keeping your kitchen well-stocked with good foods.
  •  Setting the table for breakfast the night before by putting out non-perishables (cereal boxes, oatmeal containers, whole-grain bread, peanut butter, fruit, etc.) so you can easily see it the next morning.
  •  Storing your milk, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, 100% fruit juice, and other perishable breakfast foods at the front of the fridge, so they’re easy to grab in a hurry.
  •  Packing and labeling each person’s to-go breakfast bag the night before and storing them in the fridge.
  •  Taking extra time for breakfast on the weekends and eating as a family
