According to a CNN article, Fulton County Georgia’s new District Attorney — Fani Willis — has opened a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump for his various attempts to “influence the administration of the 2020 Georgia general election.”
In a letter sent Wednesday to several Georgia state election officials, the DA’s office has requested that they preserve all documentation related to Trump’s January 2 phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which he pleads him to “find 11,780 votes” — the exact number needed to win the state of Georgia.

At least two more phone calls have been brought into question: one of them being an hour-long exchange in which Trump censures a fellow Republican for refusing to falsely claim that he won the state of Georgia, and another in which Trump attempts to coax a leading investigator into “finding the fraud” by promising that the official would be recognized as a “national hero” — not to mention the other 18 attempted calls from the White House to the Georgia secretary of state’s office between the election and the January 2 phone call.
Moreover, the new Fulton County DA has made it clear that the scope of her inquiry would not only encompass the pressure campaign on state officials by former President Trump, but also the activities of his allies — including Senator Lindsey Graham and Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer.
She laid out an array of possible criminal charges, including but not limited to: criminal solicitation to commit election fraud, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office, and making false statements to government bodies.
As a new District Attorney, Ms. Willis has many challenges ahead of her, and not just relating to the inquiry. Nonetheless, she has garnered the support of many — including Atlanta civil rights attorney Shean Williams, who applauds her strong display of courage and integrity. On the other hand, former aide and legal team member Jason Miller, has publicly denounced the investigation as the continuation of a “witch hunt” by Democrats against the former president.
